Alzheimer's vaccine 'in a patch'

I have a personal interest in this story.  You’re probably thinking that I’m concerned about older loved ones in my life (or myself).  Actually, it’s my four year old son with whom I’m concerned.  He has Down syndrome and 25% of adults with Down syndrome will develop Alzheimer’s disease by the age of 40.  65% of those with Down syndrome who live to age 60 will have the disease and all autopsies of people with Down syndrome have shown brain patterns indicative of Alzheimer disease.

This vaccine patch could be very good news for him and other children with Down syndrome.

Alzheimer’s vaccine ‘in a patch’

A patch which delivers a vaccine against Alzheimer’s disease through the skin has been shown to be safe and effective, a study has found.

University of South Florida researchers reported the patch was able to clear brain-damaging plaques from mice.

Alzheimer’s is linked with the build up of a protein called beta amyloid in the brain, where it clumps together to form damaging plaques.

The vaccine – given transdermally – works by triggering the immune system to recognise beta amyloid protein, attack it and break it down.

Old news – Hillary says, "I'm in."

Hillary Rodham Clinton throws her beret in the ring…oh wait… Last week it was the mysterious background check on Barack Obama and his Muslim education in Indonesia and then Ms. Clinton makes her announcement on a Saturday of all days. There’s some speculation that it could possibly be due to the Sunday morning news shows. I kind of wonder if she wanted to give the conservative talk show hosts a couple of days to digest and burp. In any case, it’s official.

Click on the lovely picture and you will immediately be taken to (lucky you). Allah Pundit immediately noticed the green foliage just outside the window. So just how long ago did she make this video? And because I’m obsessed with getting new living room furniture – I notice the hideous couch and clashing throw pillow. Oh, and there’s also that framed photo of Billary on the table in the background.

And remember kids:

If you work hard and play by the rules you can build a good life for yourself and your family.

I’m pretty sure they said that on a Blue’s Clues video too.

Hillary’s In

I was noseying around and came to the “About” page entitled Mother & Advocate. On that page, her education and career are outlined and all the way at the bottom of the page is this line:

She also continued her legal career as a partner in a law firm.

Wonder what the name of that firm was? Anybody? Anybody?

I agree with Sensible Mom

She needs to do something about her hair.

Maybe it’s a “chick thing” to notice stuff like hair and couches?

Thanks for sharing this Allah Pundit

Come one, come all, I have here in this mysterious bottle the cure for what ails you! That’s basically the equivalent to what this guy is saying but I think he has some sort of machine instead of snake oil in a bottle. But we really can’t be sure because he’s not revealing much except that he’d share the cure with the US if he’s removed from the terrorist watchlist.

UK considering chemical castration for sex offenders.

Sex pests ‘could have hormone injections’

Sex offenders could be forced to have hormone injections under radical plans to tackle crime being considered by Downing Street.Strategists think the injections – effectively the “chemical castration” of sexual predators to suppress their urges – would help prevent attacks. The controversial proposal is one of a number being looked at by Tony Blair’s strategy unit as part of the Prime Minister’s policy review.Other ideas include installing microchips in the mentally ill to monitor their behaviour and sending text messages to parents to warn them a paedophile is at large in their area.

mrped1.pngThey’ve come up with some creative solutions there but there is old technology that may work. Facial tattoos. Kind of like the Mr. Yuk sticker of the new millenium. Schools could have special assemblies like we did in the old days pointing out what the tattoo looks like and what to do if you see someone with that tattoo near the playground.

Yes, I am saying this with tongue in cheek (sort of). But when I read about “text messaging” parents, I thought this made more sense.
