Free speech all over my yard…

I have to admit, this cracked me up:

Political critic in deep doo-doo

DENVER — A Colorado jury will decide soon whether one person’s dog excrement is another person’s free speech.

Authorities said Kathleen Ensz was so offended by repeated mailings from Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, Colorado Republican, that she stuffed one of those brochures into the mail slot of the congresswoman’s Greeley office wrapped around a little something extra: a dollop of doggy doo-doo.

Now Ms. Ensz, a 63-year-old retired University of Northern Colorado professor living in Greeley, is facing charges of misdemeanor “use of a noxious substance.” Her attorneys, however, argue that their client was exercising her constitutional right to free speech.

“Ms. Ensz’s action in returning an unwanted mailing from Congresswoman Musgrave … with a piece of feces was expressive conduct protected by the First Amendment,” Denver lawyer Patricia Bangert said in a motion filed Tuesday. The filing does not deny that Ms. Ensz put the package through the mail slot, claiming instead that the act is constitutionally protected and thus not a crime.

Critics denounced that argument as a load of bunk, but others say it’s not as far-fetched as it might seem. After all, if flag burning is protected under the Constitution, why not poop parceling?

No, Nancy, not a Global Warming committee!

Okay, let’s form a committee to create a solution for something that is an unproven theory just because it will appease the voters who are royally pissed about the aquiesence of funds for the troop surge. Yeah, that’s the ticket! And while you’re at it, Nancy, can you create a committee for Rain Follows the Plow? Just another way we humans influence climate.

Pelosi Creates Global Warming Committee

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sought to create a special committee Thursday in an effort to jump-start long-delayed government efforts to deal with global warming and produce a bill by Independence Day.

Pelosi, D-Calif., said the committee would hold hearings and recommend legislation on how to reduce greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide generated by fossil fuels, that most scientists blame for a gradual warming of the earth’s climate.

“I promise to do everything in my power to achieve energy independence … and to stop global warming,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi set a goal of the Fourth of July for finishing a global warming bill that would “truly declare our energy independence.”

Wow, Independence day will be the day we declare our energy independence. So, will we be building more nuclear power plants?

Take a moment for Mark Daily

I learned about 2nd LT Mark Daily this morning from Michelle Malkin’s blog. He was killed in Mosul this past week in an IED attack. Take a moment to learn about him, pray for him, and thank him.

An excerpt from his MySpace, WHY I JOINED:

I joined the fight because it occurred to me that many modern day “humanists” who claim to possess a genuine concern for human beings throughout the world are in fact quite content to allow their fellow “global citizens” to suffer under the most hideous state apparatuses and conditions. Their excuses used to be my excuses. When asked why we shouldn’t confront the Ba’ath party, the Taliban or the various other tyrannies throughout this world, my answers would allude to vague notions of cultural tolerance (forcing women to wear a veil and stay indoors is such a quaint cultural tradition), the sanctity of national sovereignty (how eager we internationalists are to throw up borders to defend dictatorships!) or even a creeping suspicion of America’s intentions. When all else failed, I would retreat to my fragile moral ecosystem that years of living in peace and liberty had provided me. I would write off war because civilian casualties were guaranteed, or temporary alliances with illiberal forces would be made, or tank fuel was toxic for the environment. My fellow “humanists” and I would relish contently in our self righteous declaration of opposition against all military campaigns against dictatorships, congratulating one another for refusing to taint that aforementioned fragile moral ecosystem that many still cradle with all the revolutionary tenacity of the members of Rage Against the Machine and Greenday. Others would point to America’s historical support of Saddam Hussein, sighting it as hypocritical that we would now vilify him as a thug and a tyrant. Upon explaining that we did so to ward off the fiercely Islamist Iran, which was correctly identified as the greater threat at the time, eyes are rolled and hypocrisy is declared. Forgetting that America sided with Stalin to defeat Hitler, who was promptly confronted once the Nazis were destroyed, America’s initial engagement with Saddam and other regional actors is identified as the ultimate argument against America’s moral crusade.

And maybe it is. Maybe the reality of politics makes all political action inherently crude and immoral. Or maybe it is these adventures in philosophical masturbation that prevent people from ever taking any kind of effective action against men like Saddam Hussein. One thing is for certain, as disagreeable or as confusing as my decision to enter the fray may be, consider what peace vigils against genocide have accomplished lately. Consider that there are 19 year old soldiers from the Midwest who have never touched a college campus or a protest who have done more to uphold the universal legitimacy of representative government and individual rights by placing themselves between Iraqi voting lines and homicidal religious fanatics. Often times it is less about how clean your actions are and more about how pure your intentions are.

That was just a small bit from the middle of his explanation. Please read it for yourself at the MySpace link above.

In the Interests section under movies, he wrote this:

If you really want to understand me, watch Schindler’s List followed by Saving Private Ryan.

Peace be with you Mark Daily.

…they’re in your neighborhood…

There was just a segment on Fox and Friends and they shared this website FamilyWatchdog.us It’s pretty enlightening and frightening at the same time. It points out offenders and the location of schools. The pinpoints on the map are a little off, but the address information was on target.

Pelosi won’t block funds for surge – DU feels betrayed

Why was this announcement an ABC/Diane Sawyer exclusive? Was she afraid to announce this among her peers?

Exclusive: Pelosi Won’t Block Funding to Stop Iraq Troop Surge, Even Though Situation Is a ‘Tragedy’

Nancy Pelosi Tells ABC News’ Diane Sawyer Bush “Has to Answer for This War”

Jan. 19, 2007 — There may be a growing battle between Congress and the president over the Iraq War strategy, but new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she won’t block funding for additional troops.

Pelosi’s position, revealed in an exclusive interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, came days after a group of senators announced a bipartisan resolution condemning the Bush administration’s plan to increase U.S. forces in Iraq by more than 20,000 troops.

While the Senate resolution would be non-binding, it would send a message to the president, and at least a dozen Republican senators have already offered their support.

In an interview with Sawyer, Pelosi said Democrats in Congress would not be held responsible for putting the soldiers in the troop surge in additional harm’s way by blocking funds, but also called the situation in Iraq a “tragedy” and a “stark blunder.”

I did a little DUmpster diving (Democratic Underground) and it seems that the DUers are feeling unraveled and a bit betrayed by Ms. Pelosi and her party:

Its called “Being betrayed by your Democratic Leadership”…

And thats exactly what is happening. The people voted Democratic because that seemed the only way to express disapproval of the course the country is on.It was the only alternative available. It will do no good because, just like the Republicans, the Dems represent the interests of big business/finance that want this war. These people, these CORPORATE DEMOCRATS,serve the interests of big business.Lieberman,Clinton,Pelosi are of the same ilk. They do not, they will not serve the interests of the people, they do not respond to or respect the will of the people.Maybe Obama…maybe Obama…

So it seems that Barack Obama is the new savior of the Democrat party. Maybe Obama indeed…
