Michigan Adulterers Beware!

In a ruling sure to make philandering spouses squirm, Michigan’s second-highest court says that anyone involved in an extramarital fling can be prosecuted for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to life in prison.
“We cannot help but question whether the Legislature actually intended the result we reach here today,” Judge William Murphy wrote in November for a unanimous Court of Appeals panel, “but we are curtailed by the language of the statute from reaching any other conclusion.”

“Technically,” he added, “any time a person engages in sexual penetration in an adulterous relationship, he or she is guilty of CSC I,” the most serious sexual assault charge in Michigan’s criminal code.No one expects prosecutors to declare open season on cheating spouses. The ruling is especially awkward for Attorney General Mike Cox, whose office triggered it by successfully appealing a lower court’s decision to drop CSC charges against a Charlevoix defendant. In November 2005, Cox confessed to an adulterous relationship.

A CAR bomb and a suicide bomber killed 60 people and wounded 110 more, including many students blown up as they waited for cars to take them home at the entrance to a university in Baghdad.
“The majority of those killed are female students who were on their way home,” an official at the historic al-Mustansiriya University’s media office said.
A police source said a car bomb exploded near the main gate of the university in an area where students wait for minibuses and cars to pick them up to go home. A suicide bomber then blew himself up near a second gate to the university as people fled the first explosion.

Crucifix conflict – UK School Orders Pupil to Remove Her Crucifix
For those of you unfamiliar – a crucifix is a cross bearing the corpus or body of Jesus. A cross on the other hand is simply a cross. Not that it’s really important but crucifixes are typically worn by Catholics.
An article in ThisIsLondon.co.uk tells of a 13 year old devout Catholic school girl, Samantha Devine, who was told by school teachers to remove her 1/2 inch crucifx with chain because it posed a “safety hazard.”
I wonder what they meant by “safety hazard.” Is it a safety hazard in the same way publishing “offensive” cartoons is a safety hazard?
Now a school bans 13-year-old from wearing crucifix
A school provoked fury last night by ordering a devout Catholic schoolgirl to remove her cross necklace because it posed a health and safety risk.
Teachers demanded Samantha Devine remove her chain and tiny crucifix despite allowing Muslim and Sikh pupils to wear symbols of their religion.
Her family have vowed to fight the decision “all the way” claiming it discriminates against Christians.
The case mirrors the row which engulfed British Airways and forced the airline into an embarrassing climbdown after it threatened to sack an employee who insisted on wearing her cross at work.
In the latest clash, 13-year-old Samantha was left in tears after her form teacher told her she must remove her tiny half-inch crucifix and chain.
But her furious family yesterday pointed out the school – Robert Napier in Gillingham, Kent – allows Muslim pupils to wear headscarves and Sikh students to come to lessons with turbans and bangles.
Samantha even claims staff routinely fail to crack down on youngsters wearing non-religious jewellery, including large necklaces and earrings.
Her parents are concerned she is being singled out because she is a Christian. The youngster last night vowed to continue wearing her necklace to school – even if it means being expelled.

See Dubya of Junkyard Blog is sitting in (blogging in?) for Michelle Malkin today and reports on the unsuccessful terrorists who attempted an attack similar to the July 7, 2005, London bombings. He pulls this sick quote from the Telegraph.co.uk:
One man, Muktar Ibrahim, 28, had actually turned so that the rucksack on his back was pointing towards a mother with her child in a pushchair as he tried to detonate the bomb in a tunnel on the Victoria Line causing “panic, fear and confusion”.
The detonators went off, but the hydrogen peroxide and chapati flour mixture, surrounded by nuts and bolts to cause maximum damage and carnage, did not ignite, Mr Sweeney said.

Yes he is – No he isn’t! What’s up with Castro?
As usual, conflicting reports abound:
MADRID, Spain (AP) – Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro has had at least three failed operations and complications from an intestinal infection and faces “a very grave prognosis,” a Spanish newspaper reported Tuesday.
A Cuban diplomat in Madrid said the reports were lies and declined to comment.
“It’s another lie and we are not going to talk about it. If anyone has to talk about Castro’s illness it’s Havana,” the diplomat said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of official policy.
The newspaper El Pais cited two unnamed sources from the Gregorio Maranon hospital in the Spanish capital of Madrid. The facility employs surgeon Jose Luis Garcia Sabrido, who flew to Cuba in December to treat the 80-year-old Castro.
In a report published on its Web site, El Pais said: “A grave infection in the large intestine, at least three failed operations and various complications have left the Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro, laid up with a very grave prognosis.”
